This table by Franklin Templeton Investments lists the number of years a country’s market was the top performing market. They looked at the MSCI Gross official index between 1988-2012. Turkey came out on top on four seperate years during the study’s 25 year period. Many emerging market countries featured on the list. What is interesting is the variation of countries on the list and the infrequency of the top performers. It suggests that diversification across a wide variety of countries is a sound investment strategy.
